Cycling Nature Experience

catalan pyrenees

HIGH MOUNTAINS, AUTHENTIC PACE

The Catalan Pyrenees hide a breathtaking terrain, but we haven't come here to compete against the clock or suffer needlessly. This is an expedition designed to venture into the immensity of its mountain passes and forest tracks with the respect they deserve, combining the intensity of high mountains with the pleasure of riding unhurried, enjoying unique accommodations, and sharing the route in a small group.

DEMANDING CROSSING, MINDFUL PACE

La ruta The Catalan Pyrenees route was born from many hours in the saddle and a deep love for these peaceful valleys, historical villages, and forest tracks. We haven't designed this trip for you to rush through miles of asphalt, but to connect with the mountains through a shared effort.

This six-consecutive-stage journey across authentic high mountains was created under the inspiration of the motto SISUthe inner strength, courage, and perseverance to keep going when energy fades. A spirit embodied by a dear friend who loved the Pyrenees above all else, whom we honor with every pedal stroke.

It is a demanding route with constant elevation gain, crafted for those who understand effort as part of the learning process, while maintaining a human pace that lets you lift your head, take in the immensity of the alpine landscapes, and truly rest at the end of the day.

WHY EXPERIENCE THE CATALAN PYRENEES WITH US?

Organizing the Catalan Pyrenees on your own means spending hours mapping tracks that link forest trails—which aren't always open or passable—hauling heavy panniers that strip away your agility on demanding ramps up Rupit, Ribes de Freser, or Fontlletera, and crossing your fingers against mechanical breakdowns or getting stranded on a forest track at nearly 2,000 meters, where high-mountain weather can shift in minutes and cell coverage vanishes.

With us, you leave all that logistical hassle behind in a demanding terrain that requires local expertise and solid planning. You travel light—carrying only what you need for the day—with the peace of mind that a support vehicle is waiting at key points with constant supplies, and the security of riding with a professional guide who knows every single section. We prepare you weeks in advance with a customized plan so you arrive with complete confidence, riding alongside you so your only job is to lift your head, breathe the alpine air, and experience the Pyrenees with total freedom.

Maximum 8 riders. Small enough to ride like a group of friends, not like an organised tour.

Your Rental Bike for the Adventure: Guava Gravel Carbon

You will ride a bike designed by and for the most demanding gravel terrain. Our rental fleet features the Guava model Guava de carbonoand configured with a 12-speed Shimano GRX group, hydraulic disc brakes, and 45 mm tubeless tires. The ideal combination of lightweight performance, control, and vibration damping to rack up kilometers with complete peace of mind.

Clear up any doubts before getting your bike ready.

The ideal bike is a gravel bike or a hardtail cross-country (XC) mountain bike. For Pyrenean tracks, we recommend tires between 40 mm y 45 mm with good side knobs to ensure grip on forest descents. As for gearing, the Catalan high mountains demand low ratios: a single-chainring setup with a 42 T or larger rear cog (or a compact double-chainring system) is highly recommended, as we will face steep ramps and prolonged climbs day after day. A tubeless tubeless system is mandatory.

The Catalan Pyrenees experience starts long before we meet in Girona. Because this is a demanding journey (+8,200 m of total elevation gain), weeks before departure we conduct an initial assessment of your fitness level and design a specific preparation plan. The goal isn't to get you ready for a race, but to prepare your body to manage large accumulated elevation gains over consecutive days, maintain a sustainable pace in alpine terrain, and arrive with the confidence needed to enjoy long days without unnecessary suffering.

This is an advanced-level tripIt is not an introductory or transitional route; we will ride 6 consecutive stages averaging 60 km per day with significant accumulated elevation gain (exceeding 1,500 m on queen stages and reaching nearly 2,000 meters altitude at Fontlletera). You need a strong mountain endurance base and consistency in your regular rides. Technically, we alternate between quiet backroads, wide forest tracks, and historic paths that may feature loose stone or rough high-mountain terrain.

Your safety is our top priority. Just like in the desert, the support vehicle stays out of the way to preserve the route's tranquility, but but coordinates to meet you at strategic points and key junctions on every stage. At these stops, you can access snacks, refill water bottles, change layers if the mountain weather cools down, or rest if needed. Additionally, you travel accompanied by guide accompanies leading the group, managing the pace, and taking care of any mechanical issues on the trail.

Yes. We offer rental Guava gravel bikes Guava de gravel featuring carbon frames, 12-speed Shimano GRX drivetrains, and hydraulic disc brakes. They come equipped with 45 mm tubeless tires, designed to deliver maximum comfort, stability, and performance on any adventure. If you prefer not to travel with your own bike, we'll have one fine-tuned and ready for you.

No, mandatory insurance is not included so that each participant can select and purchase a policy that best fits their country of origin and personal circumstances. It is a strict travel requirement that your insurance policy specifically covers road cycling, full medical assistance, and repatriation. If needed, we can advise you on finding a suitable option.

No, not at all. True to our philosophy of riding free and light, we handle the luggage transfers between accommodations. Your main luggage travels safely in our support vehicle from hotel to hotel. You only need to pedal with the day's essentials (phone, windbreaker or raincoat in case the weather shifts, and basic nutrition), keeping your bike light and responsive so you can fully enjoy every climb and descent.

We view effort as an essential part of the journey, but rest is sacred. At the end of each day in the mountains, charming handpicked ural hotels and stone guesthouses await you you in remote villages like Rupit, Alpens, or Ribes de Freser. These are cozy, locally-managed places where you can unwind, enjoy a hot shower, savor the superb homemade gastronomy of the Catalan valleys, and recharge in a warm, welcoming setting perfect for sharing the day's stories with the group.
